Nutrition and Healthy Eating ! Fun games to teach kids in Preschool and Kindergarten about balanced

This app Nutrition and Healthy Eating is definitely designed for any young learner. Food and apps together– yummy combination! The app’s goal is to help children learn about healthy eating as well as the food groups. There are three games within the app to differentiate between food and inedible objects, to sort foods within their proper food groups, and to make a balanced meal. Each of the games has three different levels to choose from, so each learner can continually be challenged as they begin to learn more about nutrition. Also, as children complete levels (like in other “I Learn with” apps) more rewards are earned within the child’s progressive charts.

Game 1) Feed the Bears- children learn all about Healthy Eating. The child is instructed to find the four food items and put them in the basket. There are three items which are not edible. In the free version, there are three levels. In later levels, the user might be asked to find all meats and protein items or maybe even the healthy foods. It’s a cute way to get children to realize that those yummy cheeseburgers are unfortunately not the healthiest option!

Game 2) Cook Magic Potions- children learn all about the different Food Groups. There are animals working in the kitchen, and the learner needs to help them out sort the foods according to their specific food group. As an example, a bowl with Swiss cheese in it would need other products belonging to the dairy food group.

Game 3) Prepare the Penguin’s Birthday Feast- children learn all about making a Balanced Meal by using all of the food groups. This game basically uses what the child has learned from the previous two games in order to create a healthy and balanced meal for Penguin’s birthday party. A menu is presented and the learner has to select appropriate items for the meal by having a variety of foods from each food group.

This app is user-friendly for both children as well as great for parents/teachers to be able to track the progress of multiple users. From a teacher’s perspective, this app is great for not only learning about nutrition but also learning vocabulary words. Not all children have eaten, let alone seen what pomegranates or eggplant look like. Bo does a great job at naming each food as the learner touches each one. With this app, Tribal Nova has given parents some fun interactive games to help children learn all about nutrition and how to incorporate it into daily life. It’s easier said than done with the fact that those Pop-Tarts are all ready to go and the drive-thrus don’t require any cooktime or much cleanup. But it is a wake-up call to model healthy lifestyle choices early in a child’s life. So iLearn with Bo: Nutrition and Healthy Eating is a chance to get your child involved with planning the dinner menu, discussing ingredients, as well as maybe trying new foods!
