Poway Unified School District offers more parenting classes A wide variety of classes for parents are being offered this month through the Poway Unified School District, varying from learning how to parent teens to how to parent positively.

The Caring Connections Center is offering a number of classes through the Poway Unified School District. For those parents who want to learn how to successfully parent their teenagers, “Active Parenting of Teens,” is being offered as a series of four classes, 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Nov. 13, Nov. 27, Dec. 4 and Dec. 11 at Bernardo Heights Middle School, 12990 Paseo Lucido. The classes, which are $ 54 for individuals and $ 84 for couples, will teach parents how to effective communicate with their teens, how to use positive discipline techniques and teach responsibility. Caring Connections Center is also offering the class “How to talk so kids will listen, and how to listen so kids will talk.” This series of four classes is being offered 6:30 – 8:15 p.m. Wednesdays Nov. 14, Nov. 28, Dec. 5 and Dec. 12 at Tierra Bonita Elementary School, 14578 Tierra Bonita Road. Learn how to have cooperation without nagging, alternatives to punishment and help your child find a positive self image. Cost is $ 54 for individuals and $ 84 for couples. Jewish Family Service of San Diego, which is funded by the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency, is offering free parenting classes through PUSD. The Positive Parenting Program is being offered 8:30 – 10:30 a.m. Tuesdays Nov. 13, Nov. 27 and Dec. 4 at Los Penasquitos Elementary School, 14125 Cuca St. Classes are also being offered 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, Thursday, Nov. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 4 at Del Sur Elementary School, 15665 Paseo Del Sur. Gain confidence in managing your child’s behavior, encourage respect and cooperation, learn strategies to strengthen your family, reduce anxiety and stress as a parent, and enhance the family to school connection.

Free childcare is available for these free classes by calling ahead and making a reservation at 858-668-4084. Leave your name, number and number of children needing care. A Spanish version of these free classes will be offered 8 – 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, Thursday, Dec. 13 and Tuesday, Dec. 18 at Valley Elementary School, 13000 Bowron Road.

Student Support Services of the PUSD is offering a free class on “Peaceful Co-Parenting and You,” 6 – 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the Caring Connections Center, 13626 Twin Peaks Road, Building #300. Taught by Tracy Wutzke, Psy.D., the class covers strategies for communication, the do’s and don’ts of co-parenting, and how to find peace and put the children first. Space is limited so make reservations early by calling 858-668-4084.
