Aloha town house fire: Child victim’s condition improving

Correction appended. Eleven-year-old Tengyuan Huo is now in serious condition at Randall Children’s Hospital at Legacy Emanuel after he was pulled from his family’s blazing town house in Aloha early Thursday morning, according to hospital officials. The boy was previously in critical condition.

His father, Gang Huo, 34, is still in critical condition at Emanuel. The third victim, 40-year-old mother Jia Zeng, was alert and conscious at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center Thursday, but is no longer at the facility.

Aloha, Beaverton and Hillsboro firefighters responded to the fire at 3159 S.W. Jaden Dr. after dispatchers received a 9-1-1 call at 4:48 a.m. Thursday.

Fire investigators believe the fire started in the first-floor garage, then spread upward. The cause of the fire is still unknown. The fire did not spread to adjacent town houses, and officials have not released a damage estimate.

Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue spokeswoman Karen Eubanks said fire officials are planning a “knock-and-talk” educational visit to the neighborhood surrounding the burned town house this afternoon or Saturday. During the door-to-door visits, residents will have a chance to ask about home fire escape plans, smoke alarms, and other fire safety concerns. Fire officials will also be checking smoke alarms, if desired.
