NEW INFORMATION: Condition of boy pulled from Lake Altoona upgraded

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) - UPDATE: Mayo hospital in Rochester, Mn says Jacob’s condition has been upgraded from critical to serious condition.

We’re learning more about the condition of the boy who was unconscious when he was pulled from Lake Altoona Tuesday afternoon.

The aunt of Jacob Lee Schultz, 4, of Cornell says her nephew has brain damage, but that the family doesn’t know the extent of it yet. She says he also has severely damaged lungs, and has been having seizures, but that “everything is still up in the air yet.” She says the family is waiting to learn more.

Schutlz was pulled from Lake Altoona around 3 p.m. Tuesday. Crews responded, and found him unconscious underwater. Altoona Police say bystanders pulled him out of the water, and that he was not breathing. A park ranger started CPR on him. Emergency crews resuscitated Schultz. He was taken to the hospital in Eau Claire, then flown to a hospital in Rochester, MN. As of Wednesday afternoon, he was listed in Critical Condition.
